Student Accommodation in Australia

If we compare the living cost of Australia with other countries where a large number of international scholars fly for education then we come to know that Australia is much cheaper than those countries (US and UK). The living cost which includes food, clothing, entertainment, transport, travel, telephone calls and other miscellaneous costs generally do not exceed beyond A $12,000.

Accommodation

You would find a wide range of accommodation in Australia such as university accommodation or home stay, to self catered apartments and share houses. You would find all kinds of accommodation facilities depending on your budget and preference. The cost of accommodation is dependent on the city you choose to study and its location. In many Australian universities, there is an accommodation officer who helps you find accommodation and also advice on your options.

On Campus – College hostels, Universities provide self-catered and fully catered hostel facility for overseas students. However, the fees and facilities of different campuses vary from each others. Students find a private bedroom with a desk and share other facilities. Its weekly charges would cost you A$90 without meals and A$180 with meals per.

Off campus - a rented flat or apartmentYou could also opt to live off campus or in a rented flat apartment; real estate agents can help you find a flat near by your university. The apartment can be either furnished or unfurnished. Sharing your flat with your fellow mates is a good idea since it would share all your expenses from rent to meals, electricity bills, water bills and many other miscellaneous expenses in a house hold. A lot of international students prefer to share the flat. The rent of the house depends upon location, size and facilities and moreover you need to pay a bond which is refunded when you leave the house/flat. It would approximately cost you A$100 –A$200 weekly.

Home stay - you can live with the Australian families near institutions. It includes almost all meals of the day and cost you A$150 to A$200 per week.
